“THE kitchen has moved from being a functional space to a place of self expression,” said Maria Strannegard, global consumer insight manger at Electrolux. Responding to this trend, Electrolux has developed the Inspiro oven, its first oven that automatically determines the right way to cook a dish to consistently achieve the desired result. It was inspired by the results of the company’s pan-European research showing that people are spending more time socializing in their homes, while cooking is becoming a status skill and the kitchen a domestic theatre. Meanwhile their ‘time budget’ is shrinking while the ambition levels are rising.
After three years of product development and 1,000 tests, Electrolux has equipped Inspire with technology which takes the guesswork out of the equation. The cooking process progresses through five stages but the key breakthrough is the way the oven manages heat. Inspiro determines what the correct final temperature of the dish should be and chooses the cooking mode (eg baking, grilling, and convection) or combination of modes needed to get there. The oven is ‘fuelled’ by a mind map of over 300 European recipes stored in its memory. The product is designed for 25 languages and will be sold in 30 countries.
