Electrolux has just opened the state of the art AEG Training Academy in Luton. It will offer a range of courses from foundation levels through to a professional level which will run throughout the year. Delegates will have access to the latest models from the AEG Neue Kollektion range.

Big Red Sales will handle nationwide sales of Bandridge and Profigold cable ranges to UK independent retailers and multiples. Bandridge is also introducing a new streamlined ordering and delivery system for its cables and connections for all stores.

Bosch is offering up to £100 cash back on its most energy efficient laundry and cooling appliances until 30 June. Included in the promotion is the Bosch Ecologixx 7 Condenser Tumble Dryer which uses 40% less energy than a standard A-rated dryer.

Bosch is also offering £70 cash back on selected Logixx and Exxcel dishwashers until May 31 2011. The offer will be promoted with a £500,000 TV and radio campaign, utilising a joint advert with Finish, the dishwasher detergent brand.

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances has scooped a Which? Best Buy for its Belling FSE60i that combines an induction hob with a freestanding double oven. The product was praised for delivering “all-round great cooking and a super-fast heating induction hob”.

Until 31 May 2011, Gorenje is offering a free five-year parts and labour guarantee on its eco-friendly washing machines and dryers. These include the WA72145 and WA72145BK washing machines and the D72325 and D72325BK condenser dryers; available in either a white or black finish.

Samsung has launched its first built-in refrigeration unit in the UK. The RL27TEFSW, which is available in stores now, marks Samsung’s first foray into the integrated refrigeration market, with the new model set to complement the manufacturer’s existing built-in range of ovens and hobs.

Which? plans to reward top performing household appliance brands in two separate categories at its annual awards in June. For the first time, Which? will split its Best Domestic Appliance Brand award into two new awards – Best Small Home Appliance Brand and Best Large Home Appliance Brand. Miele, has been shortlisted alongside AEG and Bosch for the Best Large Home Appliance Brand accolade; while De’Longhi, Kenwood, Morphy Richards and Phillips are the front runners for the small appliance category. All have been chosen due to the number of Which? Best Buys they have secured, as well as their performances in Which? reliability and customer satisfaction surveys.

The UK maintained the number one position in the top 20 most global retail markets, attracting 58% of all international retail brands, with consumer spending growth of approximately 1.5%, according to CBRE’s fourth annual survey. The UK was closely followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with 54% of all retailers surveyed, and the US with 50%. London retained its position as the most popular retail city in the world, attracting 56% of all international retail brands surveyed; however, it now shares the top position with Dubai.

The test results of ATLETE (Appliance Testing for Energy Label Evaluation), the project funded by the European Commission to verity the compliance of 80 different models of refrigeration products showed that only 47% of the products, all on the EU market, are true to their labelling on the basis of five parameters: energy consumption, storage temperature (including climate class), net volume, freezing capacity and temperature rise time. That percentage rises to 84% if efficiency class declaration only is considered, together with its two related parameters; energy consumption and storage volume.
