Prescot-based cooking appliance manufacturer Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) is bidding farewell to one of its longest standing employees after fifty years of loyal service.
Senior sales order processing representative Colin Short started work for Stoves PLC on August 31 1965 aged just sixteen, continuing to work at the Prescot site after the brand was acquired by Glen Dimplex Home Appliances in 2001.
Colin has worked in the same department throughout his career but has had a huge variety of roles ranging from stock picking to marketing and sales statistician.
When he joined the site in 1965 it was a considerably smaller operation and he has watched the business grow with the acquisitions of Belling, New World, Lec and, most recently, Britannia Living, transforming the Prescot manufacturing facility into the 26 acre site it occupies today.
The company adds that day-to-day life on site in 1965 was very different to what it is today, with production focused solely on the domestic market. Today, GDHA employs over 1,000 people and, as well as serving the UK market, exports its cooking appliances to countries across the globe.
Colin, pictured left, said: “I’ve witnessed a huge amount of change in the industry over my fifty years and I’m proud to have been part of the GDHA business for such a long time. I’ve made some fantastic friends and will miss the team.”
GDHA chief executive Denver Hewlett added: “We’re sorry to see Colin go, but he deserves to take things easy after 50 loyal years. We’re very proud to be a company which retains its staff. In many cases, we’ve employed multiple generations of the same family. We wish Colin all the very best and thank him for his loyalty and hard work.”
