Britain’s supermarket chains have launched the biggest discounting bonanza in years before the Christmas season, with toys, gifts and electricals on sale more than a month and a half before the big day. The big four grocers are trying to capture entertainment and toy sales following the collapse of Woolworths and Zavvi.
Retail businesses across England are being urged to show their commitment to apprenticeships by displaying a new ‘badge’ on their websites or stationery. Once an organisation has put the badge on its website, its logo will in turn be placed on the Apprenticeship website – ensuring their customers can see they support young people.
Tesco has signed an agreement to set up the first in a planned series of joint ventures to develop shopping malls in China. Fifty per cent of the joint venture will be owned by a syndicate of leading Asian investors.
New research carried out by the Local Data Company shows that coffee shop chain outlets have grown by 47% across the UK during the last year. Independents grew by 12.5% and their growth rate went up from 3% to 7%. Regional and more rural areas have seen the biggest growth.
Toshiba UK and the Football Association (The FA) have announced a new partnership that will see Toshiba UK become the official consumber electronics supplier to the England football team, also during next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals.
