Digital set-top box provider Humax has launched the Humax FVP-4000T, the first set-top box to deliver the new Freeview Play connected TV service, which combines catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television in high definition (HD).
The Humax FVP-4000T includes built-in Wi-Fi, allowing consumers to connect the box to any existing broadband service for instant access to all Freeview Play’s catch-up services, which include BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5. A recent agreement between Humax and Netflix should also see Netflix available on the FVP-4000T models in early 2016.
The FVP-4000T set-top boxes, powered by the Opera Devices SDK (software development kit), have three built-in tuners for advanced recording functionality, with a choice of 500GB or 1TB hard drives for up to 300 hours or 600 hours of programme storage space, respectively.
Available in two colour schemes and priced at £199.99 for the 500GB model and £229.99 for the 1TB model, the Humax FVP-4000T goes on sale October 7 and is available from a range of UK retailers, including John Lewis, Tesco, Currys, PC World, Argos and Humax Direct.
Humax commercial director Graham North said: “The new FVP-4000T range for Freeview Play gives viewers the options they want from a TV service, whether that’s on-demand viewing, scrolling back the TV guide to catch up on missed shows, playing back recordings or watching live TV. By combining seamless wireless connectivity with the advanced features of the Freeview Play service into one box, Humax continues to lead the UK’s subscription-free set-top box market.”
Freeview managing director Guy North commented: “We believe that Freeview Play is set to become the new normal way of watching TV and it’s great news that with this launch Humax is giving even more viewers the opportunity to experience it.”
