New White HIPS-8513 recycled plastic compound helps white goods manufacturers increase recycled content through a closed-loop solution that transforms plastics recovered from end-of-life refrigerators into high-quality raw material for applications including refrigerator liners, shelves, trays and shelf surrounds.

Enva has launched a new recycled plastic compound that enables white goods manufacturers to increase recycled content, reduce carbon emissions and move closer to fully circular production.

White HIPS-8513 is a high-quality recycled high impact polystyrene (HIPS) compound containing 93% post-consumer recycled content. Developed using Enva’s advanced sorting and compounding processes, it represents the company’s whitest recycled HIPS grade to date, delivering the consistent colour, physical performance and dependable long-term supply demanded by modern white goods manufacturers.

Life cycle assessment of Enva’s recycled HIPS compounds has shown carbon emissions more than 90% lower than equivalent virgin HIPS, highlighting the significant environmental benefits recycled materials can deliver for manufacturers seeking to reduce the environmental impact of their products.

Recycled Plastics – *Polypropylene (PP)

The new compound builds on Enva’s unique position as both a leading recycler of end-of-life white goods and a manufacturer of high-quality recycled plastic compounds. Plastic recovered from end-of-life refrigerators can now be transformed into a premium, prime equivalent white HIPS compound that delivers performance comparable to virgin material, ready to be moulded into applications including refrigerator liners, shelves, trays and shelf surrounds.

Unlike traditional supply chains, where manufacturers often source recycled polymers from multiple suppliers, Enva controls every stage of the process, from collecting and recycling end-of-life appliances through to producing finished plastic compounds. This integrated approach not only delivers significant environmental benefits but also provides customers with greater confidence in the long-term availability, traceability and consistency of their raw material supply.

Bradley Wright, General Manager, Plastics GB at Enva, said, “Manufacturers are under increasing pressure to reduce the environmental impact of their products while maintaining the quality and performance their customers expect. White HIPS-8513 demonstrates how a truly circular approach can deliver both.

“By recovering plastic from end-of-life refrigerators and converting it into our whitest recycled HIPS grade yet, a premium, prime equivalent white HIPS compound that delivers performance comparable to virgin material, we’re helping customers reduce reliance on virgin materials while supporting meaningful reductions in carbon emissions.

“Because Enva manages every stage of the process, from appliance recycling through to compound manufacture, we can also offer customers confidence in the consistency, quality and long-term availability of the material.”

Enva has invested significantly in advanced appliance recycling infrastructure, including specialist facilities capable of recovering high-quality plastics from refrigerators and other domestic appliances. The business now has the capability to supply 12,000 tonnes per annum of prime equivalent white HIPS, providing manufacturers with a reliable, long-term source of high-quality recycled material. This integrated approach helps overcome one of the key challenges facing manufacturers: securing consistent supplies of premium recycled material as demand for recycled content continues to grow.

Alongside White HIPS-8513, Enva’s wider range of recycled plastic compounds provides manufacturers with a practical alternative to virgin materials, combining comparable performance and finish with significant carbon reductions. Suitable for injection moulding, extrusion, vacuum forming and masterbatch applications, Enva’s formulations can be tailored to meet specific product requirements while supporting ESG commitments and wider circular economy objectives.

As manufacturers seek practical ways to reduce carbon emissions and increase recycled content, White HIPS-8513 demonstrates how closed-loop recycling can transform end-of-life products into the raw materials needed to manufacture the next generation of appliances.

Enva is now looking to work with manufacturers to develop new long-term closed-loop partnerships that help further reduce carbon footprints, increase recycled content and accelerate progress towards environmental and sustainability goals.
