The Sustainable Markets Initiative today announced that Haier Smart Home, the number one company globally in major home appliances, has been awarded its 2023 Terra Carta Seal.

The Seal recognises global companies which are actively leading the charge to create a climate and Nature-positive future.

The Terra Carta Seal is awarded to companies which have demonstrated the success of a high-impact, large scale company-wide project, initiative or strategy which aligns with one or more of the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s 10 Terra Carta Articles.

The Articles underpin the Terra Carta, the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s guiding mandate which provides a roadmap and framework to accelerate the transition to an ambitious and sustainable future, placing Nature, People and Planet at the heart of global value creation.

Recently, Haier Europe announced its commitment to submit a plan for emissions reduction in line with science, setting an intermediary target of 60% renewable energy across all the company’s-controlled sites by 2025, and to sustain part of its operation with self-produced renewable energy.

The announcement follows recent investments in production efficiency made by the company, which led Haier Europe to reduce part of its direct and indirect emission by over 20% in recent years.

Yannick Fierling, chief executive of Haier Europe, said: “We are extremely proud to receive this prestigious award, which reflects our company’s commitment to the pivotal integration of sustainability into our business.”

“In line with our corporate philosophy ‘Zero Distance to the Consumer’, our ambition is to respond to the needs of our users, including promoting a more sustainable future. We are therefore grateful to receive this award, which further adds credibility to our transition roadmap”.

The Terra Carta Seal was launched in 2021 at COP26 by His Majesty King Charles III when he was the Prince of Wales. Since its inception, the Sustainable Markets Initiative has awarded its coveted Seal to just 83 companies globally.
